Mirzapur is an Indian Crime Thriller Web Television Series created by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh and Mihir Desai. It stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, Diveyenndu, Isha Talwar, Rasika Dugal, Vijay Verma, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anjum Sharma and Harshita Gaur in the lead roles in season 2. The first season was premiered on 16th November 2018 and consisted of 9 episodes. The latest second season was released on 23rd October 2020 on Amazon Prime Video and has a total of 10 episodes.
The series starts just where it was ended in season 1. Munna Bhaiya has met with an accident and Guddu was shot in the leg at the marriage massacre last season, and both are recovering from their wounds. Guddu and Golu are in full on REVENGE mode whereas Munna wants to sit on the throne of Mirzapur. Rati Shankar's son Sharad Shukla is also in the main picture here and wants to kill Guddu and conquer Mirzapur. So will Golu and Guddu be able to take revenge and kill Munna and Kaleen Bhaiya? Who will sit on the throne of Mirzapur? Will it be Guddu, Munna, or Sharad?
Writer Puneet Krishna's Mirzapur 2 is brilliant in every aspect. The first three to four episodes are a bit slow as the lions are recovering and when finally the story is back on track then the characters ROARS! It shocks you, surprises you, startles you but never disappoints you. The writers did a commendable job for writing such an amazing script which has an ample amount of thrill and twists and that too in every episode. Many new characters are brought on board and many alliances are also formed which feels fresh but I'll say I missed Vikrant Massey. This season is longer than the previous one and every character has been given sufficient screen time to bring out the best from them.
Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand Tripathi/Kaleen Bhaiya has given an incredible performance. He's very calm and composed whereas his son Munna played by Divyenndu is a treat to watch. He's violent and irascible and his dialogue delivery is top-notch. Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Shweta Tripathi as Golu are in full on Payback mode and some of their scenes are quite heavy on emotion. The most surprising was Rasika Dugal as Beena, she is on fire this time and she's very much ready to play this survival game. It will be interesting to see how her character progresses in season 3. Anjum Sharma as Sharad Shukla is back in great form in taking vengeance for his father's death. He's clever and not a front player. Isha Talwar as Madhuri Yadav has looked very beautiful and she shines in every scene. Vijay Verma is outdoing himself with every film and series. Priyanshu Painyuli as Robin, last seen in Extraction, has made his presence felt and you'll love the way he says "Ye bhi theek hai!" every time.
Season 2 is bigger and grand and the camera work of Sanjay Kapoor is worth mentioning, it's because of the cinematography the grandeur is visible in almost every frame. Dialogues are punch-packed and powerful and it is heart touching where it needs to be like when Guddu says "Rone se hum kamzor toh nahi pad jayenge na Golu?" will make you emotional. How could anyone who saw Mirzapur and didn't praise the BGM? Background Music and the theme music are BANG ON! It's exciting and electrifying.
Mirzapur season 2 is bigger and darker than season 1 and it's worth your time. Puneet Krishna has exceeded the level to season 1 and delivered us content which is exciting and thrilling every second and never fails to let down. It ends in a cliffhanger and hence you'll be more excited to see how the characters unfold in season 3, which may arrive in 2022.
