12 Hour Shift - Review : Horrors of Comedy of Errors!!!

12 Hour Shift is an American Comedy Horror film directed by Brea Grant. It stars Angela Bettis and Chloe Farnworth in lead roles along with Nikea Gabby Turner, David Arquette, Mick Foley, Kit Williamson, Tara Perry, and Dusty Warren in supporting roles. It was released on 22nd September 2020 and is now available in BluRay.

Angela Bettis here stars as the drug addict and tired and bored nurse Mandy, who steal other patience medications and trade organs under a black market scheme. Her cousin Regina (Chloe Farnworth) who once messes up a kidney delivery to an organ traficker Nicholas (Mike Foley), again returns to that same hospital and asks Mandy to help her to get another kidney or they will kill her.

Mandy refuses. Regina kills a patient who was on dialysis without having any knowledge that his kidneys are worth nothing. Mandy tells Regina to wait in the car and Mandy goes into the morgue to take out the dead man's kidney whereas outside Regina, after seeing Nicholas' henchman, kills her but sadly ends up taking out his bladder. Other henchmen are creating chaos killing everyone inside the hospital and are searching for Regina. Will Mandy be able to put a stop to this havoc?

Written by Brea Grant, this film has a lot going on but still, it feels empty and unsatisfying. However, the two main female lead characters are wonderfully written and flashed out, especially Mandy.
A drug addict and running an organ trafficking black market and is a nurse, now that's called an outstanding messed up personality. Mandy is one of the fresh and novel characters you have seen to date.

Whereas Regina appears just naive and foolish glam doll but is quite entertaining and a guaranteed act that makes you laugh throughout the film with her stupid acts which are actually very funny. But apart from that, we don't get to see anything worth investing our time here. Everything appears to be lame and slow.

The comedy of errors, that's what I feel is intended to deliver, becomes quite a hubbub in a very wrong way. Yes, there are some scenes that might give you a chuckle, but alas, it fails to rise from just bring a disorder created among multiple characters and the ineffective gore and dead bodies piling up doesn't support well this film to be tagged as a horror film.

Angela Bettis as Mandy is the only one saving the film from sinking. She is good and effective in every scene and Chloe Farnworth is just there to provide laughs with her dumb actions. She is good too. Nikea Gabby Turner as Karen, David Arquette as Jefferson, Mick Foley as Nicholas, Kit Williamson as Officer Myers, Tara Perry as Dorothy, and Dusty Warren as Mickey are just about okay.

The cinematography by Matt Glass is very ordinary and the production design by Gypsy Taylor looks artificial. The music is very average and the editing is just about good.

12 Hour Shift is a lazily executed comedy of errors film. With so much going on, it still fails to satisfy you. The horror doesn't work, it will be wrong to call it a horror. Few comic scenes work but that's about it. The premise is terrific but it's execution is so ineffective, everything fails to create any impact it intended. If you're looking for some horror content with some slice of comedy, you can give this a chance then. If you don't like horror at all, skip this.

Rating:- 2/5
