The Legend Of Hanuman is an Indian animated web series created by Sharad Devarajan, Jeevan J. Kang, and Chaurvi V. Singhal. It features the voice of Sharad Kelkar, Shaktee Singh, Da Man, Sanket Mhatre, Vikrant Chaturvedi, Richard Joel, and Pushkar Vijay in the main roles. It has a total of 13 episodes and was released on 29th January 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar.
The story is about Lord Hanuman whose powers were snatched by Gods to keep the three realms safe when he was a child. Now grown up Hanuman and his King Sugreev are in a jungle where they met the two brothers, Ram and Laxman. Ram says that her wife Sita is missing and asks for their help. King Sugreev wants to kill his brother Vali with the help of Ram and so he helps. Vali's son Angad had to join them and now the vaanar sena, Hanuman, Angad, Jambvan, Nal & Nil, and others set on an adventure in search of Sita and the midst of it, Hanuman gets to know his true nature and the powers he had all the way.
Written by Sharad Devarajan, Sarwat Chadda, Arshad Syed, and Ashwin Pande, The Legend Of Hanuman serve as a window to witness the Lord Hanuman's life and it does it beautifully. The story is well known to us, not in a detailed manner though, not to everyone, and this one being a series, uses its shot and takes time for developing every sequence for a depth experience. There were many scenes that I've never heard of or seen in any movies and watching it here do give it a refreshing touch.
I don't know about the authenticity of such scenes but the show itself is so mesmerizing it will hardly matter. It is skillfully decorated with prologues of each episode that showcases the story besides the adventure of Hanuman that you have to know with the flow, who is Raavan? Who is Ram? The relationship between Jatayu and Sampati, everything is systemically shown so that any viewer who has zero ideas about Indian Mythology could understand it easily.
Most of us have watched Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (1992) uncountable times, and our childhood memories are attached to it as we used to watch that one every time it was telecast on Cartoon Network or Pogo and now watching The Legend Of Hanuman surely brings a feeling of nostalgia as you relive your happy childhood days when you used to see Hanuman kicking the giant villains.
A lot of hard work has gone into the research and development of the script and the same we can say for its animation. The 3D animation technology gives an immersive and alluring experience and a quality that is surely many steps up from what we have already seen in Indian animated shows and films. Some sequences are visually stunning and make you wish that could have watched these scenes on a big screen as possible. The dialogues are breezy and not full of heavy Sanskrit words and that makes it a show a kid can watch without any difficulty.
The voice artists have also done a great job. Every voice is perfectly cast especially Da Man as Hanuman, Shaktee Singh as Jambvan, Sanket Mhatre as Ram, Vikrant Chaturvedi as Sugreev, and Toshi Sinha as Surpanakha are pitch-perfect in their voice acts. They give lives to these animated characters and looks believable on screen. The characters appear so humane and have been given a distinct personality to everyone which is now hardly seen in any animated films nowadays. It tries to be real as possible with the characters and the dialogues.
The Legend Of Hanuman is nothing different from what we have already known and saw but the makers leveled up their game and the result is visible in every frame of it. It's beautiful, colorful, and keeps you hooked in its more of a human drama kind of screenplay which makes you understand every character inside out. I hope Ram and Laxman will be more in season two. Stream it, watch it with your friends and family and enjoy.
