The Mandalorian (Season 2) - Review : Nothing new but can be Enjoyed!

The Mandalorian (Season 2) - Review

The Mandalorian is an American action-adventure sci-fi series created by Jon Favreau. It stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Katee Sackhoff, and Temuera Morrison in main roles. This new season has a total of 8 episodes and was premiered on 30th October 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar.

Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) is alive as you know from the first season. Here our hero, Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) is looking for other Mandalorians who can help him find the Jedi and reaches Mos Pelgos, and met a marshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), in a mando armor but not a Mandalorian and tells him that he brought this armor from Jawas. He will return it to him but in return, he has to help him to free the town from a giant, Krayt Dragon.

Then the Mandalorian meets a frog lady who's husband has got some information about the other Mandalorians, but for that, he has to go to estuary moon Trask, but are attacked by the X wing fighters and he crashes the Razor Crest on that planet. The cute little Yoda tries to eat eggs inside a cave which unleashes a swarm of spiders and a giant spider. Finally, the lady frog unites with her husband, and a fisherman and his men attack The Mandalorian but is saved by other Mandalorians. Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff), a mando, asks for help to seize the weapons from the Imperial freighter, and then she will tell him where to find the Jedi.

The Mandalorian returns to Navarro for the further repair of his Razor Crest and there he again met with Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). They ask for his help to destroy the Imperial base where some experiment is going on, they successfully blow up the base but are attacked by the stormtroopers. All the actions end and they leave for Corvus but Moff Gideon's spy has planted a tracker on the Razor Crest. So what will happen after this, for that you have to watch The Mandalorian.

The series has been written by Jon Favreau (Ep 9-12,14,16), Dave Filoni (Ep 13), and Rick Famuyiwa (Ep 15). It's good and sometimes enjoyable but it slowly becomes repetitive. If you have watched all the 16 episodes, what do you find common among all the episodes? If you wanna need some help then help us first. Have some free time Mando! Come on, help me in fighting those enemies.

I've watched this new season in one go, maybe that's why all the episodes seem very much routine and repeating to me. It's has a touch of Disney movies and no one can deny that and maybe that's the reason the shows look simple, a thin story, and has a feel-good vibe. Even when Moff Gideon kidnaps Grogu, the Baby Yoda, yes, that's his name, the feeling of tension and pressure is absent and the makers fail to create that impact and you however feel like nothing big is at stake.

Even the action sequences are not at all exciting which are just executed with amazing VFX and fail to give you the thrills. Jon Favreau is known to start the marvelous Marvel Cinematic Universe by introducing Iron Man and how can anyone forget the fine attempt to make the Live-action Jungle Book. But here he didn't deliver anything new from what we already saw in season 1, in terms of writing the plot.

By wooing you with Krayt Dragon and giant spiders and big action sequences and space battles, there is still a void that is impossible to fill here. The bond between the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda is the only layer that keeps you invested in this 'not so fresh' series. The absence of Baby Yoda or Grogu, when he was kidnapped for the experiment for his blood, that has the potential to bring back the order to the Galaxy, is strongly felt and you don't even want to care about what's going to happen to Bo-Katan, or Boba Fett or anyone.

When the dark troopers were banging the doors, anyone could predict that someone will come to help them and that's where enters a Jedi, Luke Skywalker. The goodbye scene seems unpolished. The whole new season is standing on that and the makers delivered it so coldly. It was unaffecting. Despite being so grand in every aspect, baby Yoda's and Din Djarin, the Mandalorian's bond, and their sweet small chats are the prime highlights of the show.

Pedro Pascal is fine as The Mandalorian and fits the role. His face is covered and he fully emotes his feelings with his voice effectively. Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon doesn't have that much screentime but is good still not threatening as a villain should be. Gina Carano as Cara Dune has a strong presence and is good in action scenes. Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze has given a stellar performance, she's confident and fierce and a delight to see. Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett has also lent good support. All the other actors have done their part quite well.

The cinematographers, Barry Baz Idoine, Greg Fraser, Matthew Jensen, and David Klein did an outstanding job in capturing the scenes which are a delight to watch. Every frame looks stunning and no less than a big-budget star wars movie. The visual effects are also flawless and the music is also good. The production design, the art direction, costume, and makeup are top-notch.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is no new than its predecessor, considering the pattern of the story. The star wars fan will like it and some may even criticize it for being monotonous and repetitive. It has got no thrills and sometimes becomes predictable yet it never becomes dull. The show tries to grab your attention with its amazing episode 9, but sadly the next and next episodes never matches the level of enjoyment of the first episode. It is a one time watch and the adorable chemistry between Din and Grogu will make sure that you make it to the end.

Rating:- 3/5
