Pehla Pehla (Season 1) - Review : Cozy, Light-Hearted and Convenient!!!

Pehla Pehla is an Indian Comedy Romance Drama web streaming series directed by Akhil Sachdeva. It stars Adarsh Gourav, Anushka Sharma, Sudhir Choubessy, Ritik Ghanshani, and Mehak Mehra. It has a total of 3 episodes and was premiered on 12th January 2021 on Alright! channel on YouTube.

Rohit (Adarsh Gourav) is an intelligent and ambitious boy who wants to starts a startup after completing his class 12th. His father (Sudhir Choubessy) gifts him a bike as Rohit has scored 90% in his exams. He's afraid to tell his father that he didn't want to go to college whereas his best friend Lalit (Ritik Ghanshani) is opting for college. Rohit also finds his first love in Nikita (Anushka Sharma). He brings in Neha (Mehak Mehra), a self-absorbed app developer in his group and from here starts Rohit's journey of making an app with the help of Nikita, Lalit, and Neha. So will he be successful in achieving what he wants? How will Rohit's father react to this?

Writer Anubhav Parasheera has done a fine job in creating a world full of these optimistic and ambitious and kind characters. Rohit's dynamics with his father appears real and understandable. The love track of Rohit and Nikita is also well presented and the drive of Rohit to achieve his dream, that hunger is also quite effectively shown.

The episodes could have been longer, 30 minutes instead of 15-18 minutes, which could have worked well with this series. Besides that, some scenes feel awkward and very conveniently shown. Like when Rohit is short of money in one scene, his father enters the room and hands him over Rs. 1 Lakh, just like that. I know that the tone of the show is kept light but these tense situations could have been handled with more maturity. To me, this scene ruined my mood, truly. I wanted to like this show but the show is so easy that it fails to create the required impact.

Adarsh Gourav, a rising star, is remarkable as Rohit. He is confident and firm as to what he's doing and what he wants to convey through his character. He did a great job and I can't wait to see him next in The White Tiger. This is just the beginning for him. Anushka Sharma as Nikita is lovely and has done a fine job. She was in Who's Your Daddy Season 2 and she was the only one who outshines everyone with her earnest performance. She is not outshining anyone here but she did her part well. Sudhir Choubessy as the father and Ritik Ghanshani as Lalit have lent good support. Mehak Mehra as Neha is irritating sometimes just because of her character.

The cinematography by Manish Shunty is impressive as the show looks fresh and refreshing. The production design is minimal and the songs by Akhil Sachdeva are a delight to hear. The editing by Jagmeet Singh is just okay.

Pehla Pehla by Akhil Sachdeva and Anubhav Parsheera is a watchable and time pass series if you're looking for something cozy and light-hearted. This could have been a fine show but it doomed itself by delivering such ridiculous scenes out of the blue. Just watch it for the fresh take on characters and the bonds that might make you feel alright and happy.
