Yes Day Review : Jennifer Garner, Édgar Ramírez and Jenna Ortega shines in this Sweet Family Netflix film.

Yes Day is an American comedy film directed by Miguel Arteta. It stars Jennifer Garner, Édgar Ramírez, Jenna Ortega and Julian Lerner, and Everly Carganilla and was released on 12th March 2021 on Netflix.

Allison (Jennifer Garner) was once was a bright, lively and jolly woman who used to say yes to everything, sky diving, dance, and even to marrying Carlos (Édgar Ramírez). They now have three kids, Katie (Jenna Ortega), Nando (Julian Lerner), and Ellie (Everly Carganilla), and have to say no to almost everything. So one day at a parents-teacher meeting, Allison gets to know what Nando thinks of her mother - that she is a dictator. While arguing, a guidance counselor/ PE teacher and football coach (he has zero knowledge about football) tell Allison and Carlos about Yes Day - a day where they've to say YES to everything that their kids want for 24 hours. They laugh at this idea of saying yes to everything but they want to try to make things better between them and kids. Some ground rules are set - no illegal or dangerous activity allowed, a limited budget will be there, traveling more than 20 miles from home is not allowed but first, the kids have to all their chores and homework. So will everything goes well on this YES DAY or it will turn out to be the usual NO DAY? For that, you've to see the film then...

Based on the children's book Yes Day by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld and with a screenplay by Justin Malen, Yes Day is a perfect family film to watch this weekend. The Torres family is here to entertain you to the fullest. Though the runtime of the film is short and sharp and maybe that's why you'll feel you don't get enough of the characters, but Malen did a pretty good job in giving depth to all the characters to at least understand them and he succeeds in that. Allison once was cheerful has now become a mother and saying no is a part of parenting - according to her.

She gets to be the bad person every time in front of the kids whereas Carlos is the same in his workplace but the opposite in front of the kids. He says Yes because at last Allison is going to say no. Katie the eldest daughter and thinks that her mother can never spend a day saying no, so she challenges her that if one time Allison says no, Katie is going to the music festival with her friends and with no adults. The film is so much fun after that, the starting of the Yes Day with makeovers and finishing an entire big bowl of ice cream and sweets in 30 minutes and playing Kablowey - it's too sweet to handle.

Watching this family having a blast makes you overlook some of its flaws. You go with the flow. That's the most beautiful thing about the film. It has everything, a mother singing for her daughter on stage with H.E.R., mother and father ending up in jail just to get the pink monkey for their daughter, the house covered up with foams (a lot of foams) thanks to the experiment by their science nerd son - Yes Day perfectly works and doesn't fall under 'oh I've seen enough of this' and doesn't delivers any cringe moments as it happens in many feel-good films. This film is genuinely wonderful, made with a good heart and just to give you a happy time.

Jennifer Garner is undoubtedly the star of the film getting the most on the character to show. From cheerful to being a strict mom, she put her energy in a perfect amount and she's so natural. Édgar Ramírez as Carlos is amazing as the sweet dad, totally opposite from the kind of serious roles he's known to do. Jenna Ortega as Katie also brings a nice and fresh vibe with her spot-on performance as the teenager girl. Julian Lerner as Nando and Everly Carganilla as Ellie are super sweet and are perfect. Nat Faxon as Mr. Deacon brings some laughs.

The cinematography by Terry Stacey is beautiful. The film looks absolutely stunning and refreshing. The production design by Doug J. Meerdink is very appropriate and the music by Michael Andrews fits the uplifting and cheerful and jolly mood of the film. The editing by Jay Deuby is super sharp.

Yes Day by Miguel Arteta is the perfect family film that you should watch with your family and friends and kids. The characters are instantly likable and sweet with zero cringe moments - that's something. Though it didn't make me feel emotional, it's good, you'll feel like you are with them - eating ice cream, playing kablowey, and in the car wash with open windows - it fills you with joy and happiness so much that it might make you sob then with happy tears. So are you feeling stressed? Then say YES to Yes Day and stream it.
