Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No. 1 is all set to release this Christmas on Amazon Prime Video. It is also believed that this new movie will be nothing but a remake of the 1995 original in which Govinda and Karishma Kapoor played the lead roles.
But do we really need another remake of Coolie No. 1? The original film often airs on Star Gold and even now many families are there who enjoy and cherish the comic timing of Govinda and the magic and the likeliness the original has.
Take the case of Judwaa. Was Judwaa 2 really worth the money and the time? For me, No! Releasing it as the sequel to the original Judwaa starring Salman Khan, did it really delivered anything new apart from what you have already seen in the first part? Again, No! The idea of executing the scenes feels outdated and what were all the actors doing? As if they're left in the open ground and told to do whatever they want to do.
I think this is what is going to happen in Coolie No. 1 too. All you have seen the trailer. Doesn't this new part has a strong resemblance to Main Tera Hero (which was also a terrible remake) and Judwaa 2 (terrible and horrible remake)? The film has been shot in Bangkok in the same lavish house as Main Tera Hero. Nothing is different or fresh and the bad thing is everything is awful here. Is this comedy? Ear stinging jokes that fall flat and loud music which is almost like someone is drilling a wall near you.
Remaking the film and remaking the songs are a trend nowadays and Govinda's and Karishma's Coolie No. 1 was itself a remake of the 1993 Tamil film Chinna Mapillai. But the concept feels to be outdated now and the kind of films David Dhawan is known to make is brainless comedy. Everything was different in the 90s but here in 2020, the audience has become more mature and his regressive comedy is something we don't want.
We will welcome the films which have a comedy that is a real comedy, we don't want our hero to be presented to us as an overacting cartoon. Varun is doing the mimicry of Mithun Chakraborty, it's irritating and not at all funny. The full form of ATM is Ambani Trump Modi... it is annoying. We all know what masala entertainer is, and Coolie No. 1 tries to be it but it rather appears to be an exhausting cringy film (from the trailer).
After Laxmii and Durgamati failures, let's see whats Coolie No. 1 has new to offer which is all set to release this Christmas. IMDb ratings will be attacked surely because of the presence of Varun and Sara. We all audience need to raise our bar by not accepting it if it comes out as an awful movie. According to me, yes, it's an unneeded film. Remaking an old film, I don't know how much it will work or resonates with today's audience. But the dangerous thing is many inevitable remakes are on their way, and I'm not against remakes, and the audience has become smarter with seeing the fresh content on the OTT platforms and surely will take the decision wisely which film deserves to be hit and which not.
