Horizon Line is an adventure thriller film directed by Mikael Marcimain. It stars Alexander Dreymon, Allison Williams, and Keith David in lead roles. It was released on 12th January 2021 on Video On Demand.
Sara (Allison Williams) and Jackson (Alexander Dreymon) are on a local flight aviated by Wyman (Keith David). Wyman tells Sara to come and sit with him in the co-pilot seat while Jackson is resting in the back. Suddenly Wyman starts to have a stroke and dies and the plane starts to fall. The autopilot has been damaged and it's now Sara who has to fly the plane and get to her friend's wedding safely.
Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken have written the film. The film starts by showing the two leads in a relationship but Sara just leaves as she is not good at goodbyes. Okay!! They again met at Sara's friend's wedding and spend a beautiful night with each other but then again Sara leaves in the morning in a hurry. So Jackson is angry. This is the relationship shown between the two lead actors before boarding them on a plane.
The starting part of the film has many actors like Pearl Mackie and Amanda Khan, who vanishes after 20 minutes and are never seen. They're hardly present so they're totally wasted. Nearly after 30 minutes, the actual game begins, the two not so well developed characters caught up in that deadly situation hardly make you actually care for them. But the makers deliver deliciously edge of the seat moments that were amazingly executed and are gripping. But sadly, apart from that nothing is worth mentioning.
The climax surely gets your expectation level high when they land, or not land, on a bar of sand surrounded by oceans which covers up as the tide rises. The risk rises so is the danger as Jackson is bleeding and the blood is shown getting spread in the water, after seeing that shot, I was hoping a shark would be coming. But then happens what I was afraid of. A "meh" ending. As if the makers have a strict 90 minutes slot for this film.
Allison Williams as Sara is not at all impressive. There are no expressions on her face and so she's unconvincing in her actions. She is sadly terrible. The same goes with Alexander Dreymon, he is just there, bland. Keith David manages to light up the frame with his presence as Wyman. Other actors are there but they hardly have anything to contribute.
The cinematography by Flavio MartÃnez Labiano is excellent. The wide shots of the plane and the thrilling moments have been captured beautifully. The production design by Tom Conroy and Gary McGinty is just about average. Music by
Jon Ekstrand and Carl-Johan Sevedag is pumping and lifts the excitement level. The editing could have been good.
Horizon Line successfully delivers a couple of thrilling adrenaline-charged sequences but the characters are so shallow that you won't care about them. Alexander Dreymon and Allison Williams are terrible in their parts and the film as a whole is a letdown as many scenes are silly and so, no one can save this 'plane' from sinking.
Rating:- 1.5/5
