Metro Park (Season 2) - Review : This Laugh Ride is a Gem!!

Metro Park is an Indian Hindi Comedy web series created by Abi Varghese and Ajayan Venugopalan. It stars Ranvir Shorey, Purbi Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Vega Tamotia, and Pitobash in main roles. It has a total of 12 episodes and was released on 29th January 2021 on Eros Now.

The show is about two Indian couples settled in Metro Park in New Jersey. Kalpesh (Ranvir Shorey) runs his store and his insurance company with his assistant Bittu (Pitobash) and the wife Payal (Purbi Joshi) owns a beauty parlor. Whereas the other couple, Kannan (Omi Vaidya) and Kinjal (Vega Tamotia) are having a naming ceremony for their new baby.  The show focuses on these couples and their day to day struggles being an Indian settled in America. Kannan and Kinjal are trying to adjust to the new lifestyle and with their baby. And Kalpesh has started a new insurance company "Sign N Smile" whilst Payal has started a new YouTube channel for the promotion of her beauty parlor and showcasing her talent of cooking new recipes to which one of her viewers says, 'banane Ke baad Ek baar khud hi chakh liya karo, mujhe poora plate fekhna pada'. Bittu is trying to contact her love Bindu, in India, by sending her letters and flowers, to which he's sadly not getting any reply until a Biscuit Baba comes and changes everything for him.

Writer Ajayan Venugopalan again delivered a masterstroke with season 2. When the first season came out, it blows up my mind with its funny and unique storyline, about Gujratis settled in America and facing and struggling for their daily needs, which you'll obviously find nothing new but what's makes it fresh is its light and breezy treatment. It never tries to be emotional just for the sake of the script. It is made for making you laugh hard and it succeeds in that completely and that's the biggest strength of the show.

With the witty and likable characters, it is hard not to flow with them. The humor of this show is just of another level. I don't remember the last time when I have laughed so much, with holding my stomach and with water coming from my eyes. Kalpesh is a Gujrati who always thinks about expanding his business, going to places where discounts or offers are going on whereas his wife Payal is a true businesswoman, who after seeing one and a half stars rating of her parlor on the internet forces her children to make different accounts and write positive reviews about the same and finally reaching up to two and a half stars.

Kannan seems to be over-possessive about his baby thinking about sending him to Yale or Princeton. He's even possessive about his body, burning calories, eating organic foods and eggs from the hens he's keeping in his backyard and they even have names, one is Ranveer as he hops too much, then the other is Deepika as she has long legs then there's Priyanka. But there was almost nothing interesting about Kinjal's character. Her mother (Sarita Joshi) was more fun to see, whose face is the only visible part, who speaks via a tab with a must wifi connection. Bittu is mostly shown sad and depressed as he's not able to contact his girlfriend and has not got the chance to pursue his dream of making a film. He gets a chance to make a zombie film finally.

The writer knows what his audiences want and he delivers that wonderfully once again. The show doesn't exhaust you and keeps you intact with its strong funny scenes and the dialogues are a blast here that is filled with Bollywood and political references like Kannan says that the baby monitor reminds him of Donald Trump's Twitter account, always blabbering and making no sense. And in one Payal says that Gujratis live for 3Ds, Dhokla, Dandiya and Dollars. Every character has the same spark and doesn't disappoint for a bit.

The show is funny not just because of the dialogues, but also how's it delivered. The show has an amazing cast, Ranvir Shorey is killing it in every shows and film and this is no exception. His dialogue delivery, his walking style, and the comic timing, everything is just spot on. The same goes for Purbi Joshi. Her expressions and accent are hilarious and her nuances are a delight here which brings ample laughs. Their scenes together are funnier. Omi Vaidya as Kannan is impressive and Vega Tamotia is also quite okay. Pitobash is a treat to see always and Sarita Joshi as Mummy leaves her mark.

The cinematography by Manoj Narula is quite average. The production design by Tiffany Stoker is good but nothing extraordinary. The music by Jakes Bejoy and Rohit Gopalakrishnan fits the comedic and light tone of the show. The editing by Shando Uruvath is sharp.

Metro Park Season 2 has the same charm intact and is supremely funny. The show gets less comedic towards the end and has a scene where Payal shares how much she loves Kalpesh. That scene is beautiful. The characters and the dialogues are the strength of the show and you'll laugh and laugh till it hurts and start rolling on the floor. This is India's best sitcom undeniably and a rare gem no one is watching sadly and many not even know about it. This mad funny ride of Ranveer Shorey and Purbi Joshi is a must-watch, as Kalpesh advertise for his insurance company that goes well for the show, "Satisfaction Guaranteed, and Definitely".

Rating:- 4/5
