The story is set somewhere in North America, wherein 1956, an outbreak of plague, named The Eclipse by the people, poisoned the soil and the livestock except for Agatha Earnshaw whose land was not affected by the plague. Agatha gave birth to a daughter during the eclipse and has kept her daughter secret from the villagers. 17 years have passed and the conditions have worsened. Children are dying and people are becoming sick. One day when Agatha was traveling by the church she saw the funeral of a child and the father, Colm angrily slapped Agatha because she's not affected by the plague but their children are dying. Audrey saws everything and was hiding inside a wooden box. While they were returning Burke saw Agatha and Audrey and asks Agatha about the other girl, she said him not to tell anyone in the village about Audrey and gave him some fresh foods to keep his mouth closed. Audrey ran away from the scene and she then follows Colm to his house and she took a box that belongs to Colm's wife Bridget. Audrey then performs a satanic ritual and after that nothing remains the same. Who is Audrey Earnshaw, what is she? What happens to Colm and his Wife? Watch the movie to know the answers.
The story and screenplay by Thomas Robert Lee are above average, but how he presented it, is commendable. It's a slow burn horror so don't expect some cheap jump scares. The tension and the mystery build-up along the plot is incredibly done and the film's vibe is really creepy. The main characters are very well established and the scenes when they cough blood or are killed, are truly unsettling. Almost everything works very well in the film, except what's the purpose of Audrey. Other than that, this film is a treat for horror fans as there is everything, from body horror, possession and blood and gore, and that too in a satisfactory amount.
Jessica Reynolds as Audrey Earnshaw has given a spine chilling performance. She has looked very beautiful and shines in every scene. Catherine Walker as Agatha Earnshaw, Jared Abrahamson as Colm, Hannah Emily Anderson as Brigdet and almost everyone has given their best. The cinematography by Nick Thomas is the best thing in the film. The camera work elevates the chilling factor in the film and has been beautifully shot. I love that yellow and greyish tint that is quite effective and helps the blood and gore to pop out more clearly. The film's slow pacing helps the audience to get absorbed completely and hence the editing is very good. Production Design, Art Direction and Costume Design stand out and the sound design too that keeps the film alive.
The Curse of Audrey Earnshaw, directed by Thomas Robert Lee is a treat for horror fans. It doesn't fail to impress the audience to show how beautiful and mesmerizing the film is and truly horrific and chilling at the same time. This is the kind of psychological horror film we truly deserve. Watching this movie reminded me of The Village and Midsommar, which shocks you every time in every frame and Audrey did it too. Don't miss the climax.
