Krack is an Indian Telugu Action film directed by Gopichand Malineni. It stars Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Samuthirakani in main roles and is now available on Aha from 5th February 2021.
The film starts with the interview of Saleem Bhatkal (Chirag Jani), a Mumbai mafia and a wanted criminal who is involved in Mumbai blasts. He shares in the interview that he once rented a house for passport verification but he was caught by CI Shankar (Ravi Teja) as he provided false information. Saleem warns him that he doesn't know about his background, but Shankar trashes him over and arrests him.
Now shift to Kadapa, Konda Reddy (P. Ravi Shankar) a local goon frees his dogs on a small girl who tried to pluck mango from his plot. Now admitted to a hospital, her mother put charges on him. SP calls Reddy and tells him that maybe CI Shankar will be dealing with this case and to go and meet Katari Krishna (Samuthirakani) who's in prison now. Intrigued by the fact that he killed more than Reddy, Reddy meets him where he shares his own story when he used to be the ruler of Ongole and Shankar became the reason for his downfall.
Written by Gopichand Malineni and Sai Madhav Burra, Krack is a full-on masala entertainer. Though the makers didn't offer anything new or exciting, they have stuffed it with three bad guys and a hero whose action moves are too unreal to handle. If you have watched any other cop drama then you won't be finding anything fresh here. It has a long runtime of 150 minutes which is exhausting to sit as it nothing solid to offer through its story.
The hero always enters with swag, and here the hero's wife Kalyani (Shruti Haasan) and their son all make a grand family entry on a bike. Seeing that you will get the hint that this Malineni's venture is nowhere trying to stay grounded. The action scenes are just too much, and we've seen enough of these artificial moves where the goons are shown flying high like superheroes. And Krack really crosses that threshold of yours and becomes unbearable after some time.
The comedy scenes which majorly falls flat are just about okay. Shankar's son Cheeku (Sathwik) brings a lightness to the film and some comic relief. Like in one scene he asks "I slept between both of you last night, how did I wake up in the hall?". Shruti Haasan is wasted and I don't understand what it wants to justify showing Kalyani fighting like a lioness. All this feels unnecessary. The love scenes and the tiring songs are purposeless. They don't add anything important to the story apart from length. The villains are no more than jokes here. The only negative character that I liked was Jayamma (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) but sadly she's killed.
Ravi Teja is not doing anything different from what he used to deliver. He's everywhere in this film even in the scene where he's not there. Sadly apart from being in style and doing over the top action scenes, he has nothing to do more. Shruti Haasan, the same could be said for her. She's looking ravishing and that's it. Her transformation into an action heroine kicking off more than dozen of tough guys is just so much to digest. Others have done a decent job.
The cinematography by G. K. Vishnu is very routine just like the story. The music by S. Chapman is very loud but it fits the tone of the film. The editing by Naveen Nooli is good.
Krack by Gopichand Malineni is a very generic kind of action film. It doesn't have any thrills or excitement and hence nothing to hold onto throughout the film. Ravi Teja is doing his usual work and Shruti Haasan is stuck here playing hero's love interest. The dubbing was awful though and the length could have been shorter. This overdosage of action and drama will KRACK your head open.
