Sumer Singh Case Files: Girlfriends Review : This is a Bigger Blunder than Kaushiki where foolish people are doing foolish things.

Sumer Singh Case Files: Girlfriends is an Indian Hindi Crime Thriller web series created by Namit Sharma and Shantanu Srivastava. It stars Rannvijay Singha, Karishma Sharma, Swanand Kirkire, Priyanka Purohit, Aditi Arya, Elisha Mayor, and Sidharth Bhardwaj. It has 8 episodes and was released on 31st March 2021 on Voot.

ACP Sumer Singh (Rannvijay Singha), the star officer, has been transferred from Ahmedabad to Delhi and he meets Nirali (Karishma Sharma) and he falls in love with her. Then Sumer also gets to know Nirali's flatmates, Ananya (Aditi Arya), Vaidehi (Priyanka Purohit), and Sonal (Elisha Mayor). But everything changes when Nirali runs away from Rishikesh when Sumer was going to propose to her and Sonal commits suicide. And when Sumer starts to investigate this case of missing and suicide, he gets to learn more about what secrets these girls are hiding behind her beautiful and innocent faces.

The story is by Namit Sharma and Shantanu Srivastava and the screenplay and dialogues are by Shantanu Srivastava. Let me ask you one question - what do you expect from a crime thriller? To keep you hooked and captivated, right! A solid story, interesting characters, and jaw-dropping twists and turns...but this second installment in Sumer Singh Case Files doesn't have one of them. Three years ago Kaushiki was released, the first installment. It was received quite well but I didn't like that too. I think it had some poorly written characters doing silly things, forcefully trying to make things complicated - which means more entertainment.

But sadly that was not the case. It was a blunder and Sumer Singh Case Files: Girlfriends is a bigger blunder. The screenplay is all over the place, it is impossible to get connected with characters or with what's happening. Sumer Singh now appears in a dual avatar, a lover boy and a cop and his girlfriend goes missing. I want to keep it spoiler-free - and there are four girls, who are strictly one-dimensional and doing foolish things. There's a scene, where it is told that Ananya has installed CCTV cameras in her house and in every room, and then she poisons her father - so smart!! There are many loopholes and hence the case doesn't look strong or serious enough to us to care for the characters.

With two parts, it is evident what the makers are trying to showcase - the young generation drowning in crimes and drug abuse and in the era of social media, obviously, there is no privacy. It has drawbacks and Sumer Singh Case Files had picked some of those trending issues but sadly the execution is so lame and unconvincing. There was one scene where Ananya and Vaidehi are being interrogated by Sumer but in different rooms and one police officer asks Sumer "why has he kept them in different interrogation rooms?" I've only one question - how did he get to be a cop? The script is poor and hence there is no thrill and you will immediately know who's behind all these silly incidents. And that's not good.

Rannvijay Singha is reprising his character from Kaushiki and it seems like he is muddled somewhere in playing a lover boy and a cop. No doubt, Rannvijay is a natural actor but here he tries to look convincing. Karishma Sharma looks sweet and beautiful and that's about it. Nothing good about her performance and the same goes for Priyanka Purohit and Aditi Arya who are just there standing for most of the time. Swanand Kirkire in a small role is good and Sidharth Bhardwaj as Bimal is also alright.

The cinematography by Jay Bhansali is quite good. The show looks refreshing and the production design by Namrata G Rungta is beautiful. The music by Kshitij Tarey and Aditya Pushkarna is high on beat and appealing. The editing by Shaju Chandran is not good at all, the screenplay and editing are equally responsible for creating such a mess.

Sumer Singh Case Files: Girlfriends is not worth your time and money. Falling under the crime thriller genre and delivering zero thrills and meh twists and turns, this show falls miserably in every department. What was the purpose of the show? To show foolish people doing foolish things, I guess. People are transferring 5000 and 50000 rupees like it's nothing - and hoping that the audience would buy such gibberish, really makes me wonders how the makers had the guts to make such crap. Are they dummy or thinking of us audiences as idiots! In the name of entertainment, OTT platforms are being converted into a dumping ground - this has to stop.
