The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Review: Shining Characters and Marvel at its Best.

As you know The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a superhero series that was premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on March 19, 2021, and has a total of 6 episodes which runs 47-57 minutes each.

The story of the show is set six months after when all the disappeared people returned from the Blip. Sam (Anthony Mackie) gives Captain America's shield to U.S. Government for museum display whereas Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is taking therapy sessions made compulsory by the government. But they have to fight together against Flag Smashers, an organization led by super-soldier Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) and her army enhanced with super-soldier serum trying to stand against Global Repatriation Council who are trying to send back all the migrants who came in during the snap.

The series is created by Malcolm Spellman who is known for the series "Empire" as a writer and he has also written the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Since September 2018, Marvel has been developing this series and was planned to release this show even before WandaVision. But due to Covid, the shooting was stopped and was finally wrapped up in October 2020. And every episode was released weekly but I binged the whole season 1 yesterday and I loved the show, no doubt, almost everyone is loving the show. There are many reasons I enjoyed and fall in love with the show and the main reason is the characters.

Falcon and Bucky Barnes, we have seen them fighting and making their mark in earlier Marvel movies, but we definitely wanted more from them. From the moment when Steve handed the shield to Sam, we wanted to know what is going to be next for Sam. Is he really going to be the next Captain America? We knew it is going to happen and then there enter John Walker (Wyatt Russell), the new Captain America. It doesn't really change or even matters anything in the show. Walker feels like just an addition to the star cast. Besides they all have to team up to fight bad guys, what impacts the most in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the amazingly written characters, Sam, Bucky, and John.

It also beautifully explores the side of the fact that will people see an African-American man Sam as their new Captain America the same way they saw and loved Steve Rogers? There was a character Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), an African-American man, who fought for this country and in return was experimented on and tortured by the government. His track is short in the show but it impacts Sam and us too and so it puts Sam in a dilemma why to fight for a country when that country has never fought for them. And the question still stands "Will people accept him as the new Captain America?"

We also see more of Bucky fighting with the past where he killed many innocent people, he loves to hang out with an old man and has to attend the mandatory therapy sessions and there's John Walker the new Captain America chosen by the US government by analyzing his speed, endurance, and intelligence but is just a soldier who has done everything his country has ever asked for. After some incidents, he is bound to face the reality and all this shapes his character really well. Well, there are so many superheroes so there has to be a villain.

Karli Morgenthau as the leader of Flag Smashers, along with her army of super-soldiers made by consuming that super-soldier serum is fighting for their survival. When the snap happened, the rich countries opened their border for the other countries to start new and stay together but when people returned, Global Repatriation Council are trying to send them back - and why would they go back so easily. Sam understands all this as he has also faced discrimination. So Karli is not a villain at all.

I think Zemo, the villain of Civil War is completely wasted here, he only leads Sam and Bucky to Madripoor and that's it, he has almost nothing solid to do here. Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Agent Carter are also there and there might be something big for them to deliver in the next season. So overall, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is another blockbuster show for MCU. The show is made on a whopping budget of more than $150 million and apart from that scene where Flag Smashers are seen stealing a shipment of medicines. Other than that, the show has the same feeling that one gets while watching the film. The music by Henry Jackman is mind-blowing and elevates the impact of the scenes.

Now it will be exciting to see what will marvel deliver in the next season. Apart from some minor issues with characters like Bucky which we see no growth and Zemo's impact less presence, this show is still worth watching as the show explores more deeply about will America accepts Sam as the new Captain America as Sam in the show, through his journey has proved that he deserves to be the next Captain America. Ok, I don't want to spoil your experience by giving any details. I'm going with 4/5, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is not as charming and lovely as Wandavision but the bromance of Sam and Bucky is not boring too. Stream it.

Rating:- 4/5
