The Broken Hearts Gallery is an American Romantic comedy film written and directed by Natalie Krinsky. The film stars Geraldine Viswanathan, Dacre Montgomery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Molly Gordon, Phillipa Soo, and Bernadette Peters in the lead roles. This film was released on September 11, 2020.
The story follows Lucy (Geraldine Viswanathan) 26-year-old girl who lives with her two best friend, a law student Amanda (Molly Gordon), and model Nadine (Phillipa Soo). Lucy works as a gallery assistant at the Woolf Gallery in New York City. But one night her boyfriend Max (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who also works in Woolf Gallery dumps her, and she loses her job on the same night. Now Lucy, drunk, gets into a stranger's car thinking it's Lyft she booked and the driver is Nick (Dacre Montgomery), who leaves her home just like a gentleman. They met again after some days, where Nick shows her that he's trying to start his hotel but he's out of money. Lucy who just loses her job and trying to get rid of all the things she collected from her relationships, she comes up with an idea to start a gallery of her own inside Nick's hotel where people could drop some of the items they've held on to for a long time from their relationships and help people to move on. At the same time, it's Nick and Lucy who are coming close to each other.
The story and screenplay by Natalie Krinsky are so earnest and real and that goes with the characters too. Lucy, who always mess up things at the last time, is so likable from the start. She lives with her two friends and in that scene where Lucy comes home after breaking up with Max, they cover her with a blanket, gave her a packet of chips and a box of tissues, which is enough to make you fall in love with the film. The friends always have their back and when the other two threatens Lucy's Boyfriend by telling some dark stuff is surely one of the best scenes and will make you laugh hard. The film becomes excessively sweet in the presence of Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery, and their striking chemistry elevates the impact of every scene they're in.
Geraldine Viswanathan is on the way to become a star in the future. From Blockers to this movie, she has proved her talent. Dacre Montgomery as Nick (Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things), is another star of the show. They both have a sweet lovely screen presence and we just can't get enough of them. Nick is more composed whereas Lucy is more upbeat and they are both believable and a delight to watch.
The Broken Hearts Gallery directed by debutant Natalie Krinsky is so pure at the crust to help people overcome their past relationship, whether it was a good or bad one, just to move on and Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery act as the film's soul. The movie is very vibrant looking thanks to the camera work by Alar Kivilo and the Production Design by Zazu Myers. The songs and background scores fit with the mood of the film and the scenes. This is one of the best among romantic comedy movies released earlier this year, it's too sweet to handle and got a heart just at the right place.
