Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari - Review : Terrific Star Cast caught up in an absurdly Boring Film.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari - Film Review

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is an Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by Abhishek Sharma. It stars Diljit Dosanjh, Fatima Sana Sheikh, and Manoj Bajpayee in lead roles along with Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Annu Kapoor, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Manuj Sharma in supporting roles. It was released in theatres on 15th November 2020 and is now available to watch via Zeeplex on Zee5 from 4th December 2020.

The film shows the story of Mangal Rane (Manoj Bajpayee) and Suraj (Diljit Dosanjh) in Bombay in the 1990s and how they become enemies of each other. Many times it happens with the people when life takes away their happiness, they do not tolerate the happiness of others. Mangal has lost his love to other and the result is that he does not like that others get their love. He becomes a marriage detective. He works for the girl family in finding out the true background of the boy with which they are being married. The latest victim is Suraj and now he swears that he will now make Mangal's sister Tulsi Rane (Fatima Sana Sheikh) falls in the trap of his love and get married.

The story is by Shokhi Banerjee, and the screenplay is penned by Rohan Shankar. The screenplay of the film is weak. The characters are not properly set up. Diljit's character in the first scene wants her wife to be confined to the kitchen and bedroom, then what happens suddenly that Suraj starts to supports Tulsi to become a DJ. I support him in doing so, it's right, but watching a film which delivers such things in so ill defined manner, it's unacceptable and unfulfilling. Suraj's parent are unaware of this fact till the end that her daughter-in-law is going to be a DJ, another loose end.

The story of the film reflects the unique synergy of Maharashtra and Punjab. That sounds good and looks fresh. What doesn't works here is the portrayal of 90s era which seems unnecessary here, and it would have been no harm if presented in modern time. The use of pager feels contrived. The story is full of loopholes and many of the scenes are foolishly executed, like the love track of Suraj and Tulsi. After two meetings they are in love with each other, wow, and that too in 90s, now that's called Turru Lobh!

The trailer was far more interesting and better than this suffocating film. The film still delivers some successful gags but that's it. It doesn't rise above that to be at least entertaining throughout.

Manoj Bajpayee as Mangal as usual impressed again with his variety of disguised acts as he played a detective. Diljit Dosanjh is very entertaining as Suraj. He fits with any type of characters, soft or loud, he gives his 100% to everything. Fatima Sana Sheikh is good as Tulsi and Seema and Manoj Pahwa and Annu Kapoor has also lend a good support. Manuj Sharma shines throughout as Sukhi.

The cinematography by Andhuman Mahaley is just average. The music is also easily forgettable.

Overall Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is just another disappointment. The director Abhishek Sharma who earlier directed successful films like Parmanu and Tere Bin Laden, here he's all the ingredients to cook out the best meal. But a good script is what it lacks. It never rises from delivering some good jokes and the whole film is full of voids which feels, after finishing, that it's impossible to fill it. Even the terrific star cast will not be able to save this boring film.

Rating:- 1.5/5
