Qubool Hai 2.0 is an Indian Hindi Romantic Comedy Drama Thriller web series created by Mrinal Abhigyan Jha. It stars Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti in lead roles along with Lillete Dubey, Arif Zakaria, Saurabh Raaj Jain, Gurpreet Bedi, and Mandira Bedi. It has 10 episodes and was released on 12th March 2021 on Zee5.
In Belgrade, Siberia, Zoya Farooqui (Surbhi Jyoti) runs off from her wedding in her bridal attire and comes before the vehicle, accidentally, of Asad Ahmed Khan (Karan Singh Grover), India's best rifle shooter. Zoya hops in his car as her love has sent hooligans to get her. After going through nearly 24 hours in a lodging stowing away from those thugs, they have grown close to one another, and afterward, Zoya unwinds what her identity is. Then there's Damini Sood (Mandira Bedi), head of the Indian National Security Council tracking the developments of Asad and Zoya. What truly happening? Why Zoya's meeting with Asad gets the National Security's attention? This is about this show.
The story and Screenplay are by Mrinal Abhigyan Jha and if you have not seen the TV serial Qubool Hai which has more than 800 episodes, no need to worry, everything starts afresh, and that too in a foreign country in Qubool Hai 2.0. Asad and Zoya are back again with the same magic and likeness where Zoya is the bubbly girl, innocent and likable whereas Asad is coolheaded and calm and talk less, and has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). I've not seen the original serial that aired on ZeeTV (seen some of the episodes) but really this reboot worth your time?
In the first 3-4 episodes, our muscular hero Asad is protecting Zoya from the goons, and Zoya keeps falling on the arms of Asad, God knows for so many times. It becomes too much... At first, you might feel how cute is that...but an overdose of anything becomes a pain in the head and that's what happens here. Zoya keeps talking and it's almost gibberish. So it's hard to get that is Zoya trying to be nice or irritating? As you have the same expressions as Asad. This all tropes between a romantic couple could have work for the TV serial but for the OTT platform, it's like serving a month-old dish to the audience.
In the second half, the show turns into an espionage thriller fully, where Asad is shown that he has been recruited by Damini Sood, then someone in India turns out that he's a Pakistani spy. Then a worker in Pakistan's Defense Minister's home is an Indian spy. Then actually, a slight increase in curiosity can be seen as to what will happen to Zoya and Asad then. Nonetheless, some scenes are so badly executed or it appears that people are a big fool, the action sequences are not that great, the sound design is terrible, and overall an exciting story is missing. It wants to be everything, romantic, melodramatic, action, or patriotic and that's why it tumbles down in many moments.
Karan Singh Grover's performance has been perfectly discussed in the show itself. He has the only expression on his face throughout but that's his character. He's earnest at least. Surbhi Jyoti shines in most parts but is flat in emotional scenes. Lillete Dubey as phuphi does reasonably well here. Shalini Kapoor as Dilshad doesn't get many scenes rather than showing her worrying for her son. Mandira Bedi as Damini Sood is also good.
The cinematography by Ramani Ranjan Das is one of the best things in the show. The foreign locations, Siberia have been beautifully captured and the show looks breathtaking in many frames. The production design by Amit Singh is of a high order and appropriate and the background music by Zoheb Ahmed and Joy Bose is good but Title Track Qubool Hai by Kaysee is beautiful. The editing by Ashmith Kunder is okay.
Qubool Hai 2.0 can be entertaining and exciting for those who have not seen many web shows. Constantly falling of Zoya into Asad's arms and then the spy thriller is what sums up to 4 hours in this reboot Qubool Hai. Watch it if you liked the original serial and Zoya and Asad's chemistry, which is good here too. Nothing more to do this weekend, stream it, though sometimes it can be predictable and claptrap, you might want to go with the flow as Zoya says.
Rating:- 2.5/5
