Love Death and Robots is back with its new season following 2 years, however, the new season is shorter than the first. It has now just 8 episodes while the first had whopping 18 episodes. Love Death and Robots is an adult animated anthology streaming series that has some amazing collections of shorts. Episodes running from 4-18 minutes, each episode has a distinct animation style, and let me also tell you, the animation is extraordinary. Video games like animation, or the comic books style, or like paintings, the animation is certainly something worth seeing regardless of whether you don't track down any short intriguing.
Love Death and Robots with its collection of shorts have consistently filled in as an alert, it is intriguing and sometimes mind-bending and other times, simply engaging. A few episodes of Season 2 are deeper and moving than the absolute best of season 1. Even if season 2 has less nudity and deaths than season 1, still some episode proves to be much better than season 1. Note - There may be a few spoilers for season 2 if you're going to read ahead.
The first episode is a sort of wake-up call and the name is "Automated Customer Service". Set in a future reality where pretty much every electrical appliance is a robot, it introduces us to an old lady who lives with her dog and she erroneously activates the Purge mode of her Vacuubot. Who gives this feature to a robot? Well, the man from the client support reveals to her that this element was intended to destroy some little pests yet in specific circumstances, it can attack bigger prey and humans as well. The vacuubot attacks the old lady and at any rate, she needs to survive this. Not bad, and this short perfectly shows that where our over-reliance on electrical gazettes will lead us to. The director and writer immaculately convey the strain and humor. It was hilarious how the old woman occupies her vacuubot by spreading all the garments around the machine. Vacuubot's number one priority is to clean the house, and by doing that the woman gets her chance to hide and is smart to concoct this thought.
Ice, the next short, is an ideal mix of affection and bond and thrills and some incredible visuals. The story is about two brothers, Sedgewick and Fletcher. Everybody in the world has some superhuman abilities except for Sedgewick and is labeled as "extro" by his brother's companions. They live on a planet that is currently covered with ice and they all went to where under that ice lives whales and they come out breaking that ice to inhale oftentimes. They all want to have some adventure yet Sedgewick finds it difficult to mix in with his companions and sibling. However, how he saves his brother and gains his brother's and companions' attention is all about this segment. Sedgewick's character is what get you contributed here from the beginning. Ice is outwardly beautiful and entrancing particularly when whales come out breaking the ice.
The third short Pop Squad is set in a reality where individuals are eternal and to keep the population in control, the kids are murdered when seen by any cop. Indeed, having kids is restricted. Yet, a cop, Briggs' life turns out to be more jumbled when he executes one child, and afterward, his girlfriend, an opera vocalist, concedes that she wants to have a child with him. The initial scene is very startling and the computer game-like animation goes amazing with the story which is set in a future time. The internal feelings of Briggs form the core of the story, how he changes as an individual finally. It distinctly shows the existence of the immortals and those of the helpless who decided to carry on with a typical life and have kids. The immortals live over poor people, it is shown that way. It's the longest and very dark among the eight shorts.
The following segment, Snow in the Desert, reminds me of The Mandalorian. Not by the principal character who is continually encircled by bounty hunters, it is one explanation, obviously. But, see the general setting. Somewhere you will think that you're watching The Mandalorian. Snow, an immortal, can regenerate his parts, and bounty hunters from across the planet are looking for him to execute him and to utilize his power to live an endless life. In any case, there's is a female character who works for Earth Central Intelligence and she courteously requests that he accompany her. This short is loaded with some brutal and gory action sequences and the animation is first-rate. For practically the whole time I was pondering, is it animated or they're genuine actors. There's an intimate moment however despite putting pointless nudity, it is very stunning to see those scenes. Simply see the animations. The close-up shots, wow. It's nothing extraordinary, however, the animations and the twist in the climax are spectacular.
The following short is The Tall Grass. Indeed, somewhat inspired by Stephen King's In The Tall Grass. Although the Netflix film was a slight bore on occasion, this short is simply astounding and very chilling. A train, going through the center of a huge field of tall grass, takes a break. A traveler bounces down to have fresh air and to smoke. The conductor cautions him not to meander and he will call just twice when the train will be ready. Yet, the traveler hears a sound and sees a blue glimmer in the tall grass and he goes inside the field. Unexpectedly a multitude of beasts attacks him and he was unable to discover an exit from that tall grass field. Things being what they are, will he survive? The animation is a plus point, it's incredible. The short is chilling and alarming and creepy and not bad, however.
The shortest short is the following one, All Through the House. It's Christmas, and two siblings are sitting tight for Santa. The girl hears a sound downstairs, the boy and girl sneak down to see how Santa really looks. In any case, they're terrified that it's a monster. A big f***ing monster. Yet, the monster isn't here to murder them, it tells them that they have both been good this year and gives them their presents. How sweet!! Also, the short finishes with the kid asking his sister that what might have happened if we haven't been good? Ooohhh!! The story is basic yet very imaginative, I wouldn't have believed that Santa could be replaced by a beast. The animation is also extraordinary, the characters look like dolls, the coating of the plastics, and the sparkly hairs, they're immaculately designed. It's frightening however as I said it's also sweet and certainly the best of season 2.
Featuring Michael B. Jordan as a pilot in this short, Life Hutch, is about this pilot who crashes on a planet yet the maintenance robot breakdowns and begins to attack whatever moves. The pilot is injured and for him it's survival. He needs to, some way or another, kill that robot and get out alive. The story is to some degree like Automated Customer Service, the first short. But, this one is more tense and dark yet it is very exhausting as well. More often than not the pilot needs to sit with no movement and it's annoying. Indeed, even the splendid climax of the short doesn't make up the harm done. The graphics are extraordinary however tragically this short isn't incredible.
The Drowned Giant is about a giant naked human carcass that washes up on the shore and the small people begin to appear on the shore getting a charge out of clicking photographs and hopping on the body of that goliath human body. Yet, a researcher doesn't do that, he sits at a distance and thinks of some bigger questions regarding demise and mankind. There's something sad about this story. Also, it makes you uncomfortable and uneasy seeing individuals indecently climbing the body yet the tone of the short is very calming as well. It's the most effective, in terms of touching your heart. Through the demise of that giant human, it features numerous points that the goliath also can't get away from death and we also have to confront the same one day. It's dark and saddening yet a perfect impactful short to end this season.
There is no way of skipping this season. The animations in each episode are a treat to the eyes. Some are heart-touching, some are dark and some are sweet. All Through the House and The Drowned Giant is the most noteworthy though Life Hutch is the weakest as per me. Season 1 was amazing as it was something not experienced before yet the following season is unquestionably somewhat disappointing however not that bad.
Rating:- 3/5
