Bicchoo Ka Khel is an Indian Crime Thriller series directed by Ashish R. Shukla, and is based on the best selling novel "Bicchoo Ka Khel" by Amit Khan. It stars Divyenndu, Anshul Chauhan, Sayed Zeeshan Quadri, Mukul Chaddha, Satyajit Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Trishna Mukherjee, Gagan Anand, Abhishek Chauhan, Prashansa Sharma, and Akash Sahay in the main roles. It was released on 18th November 2020 on ALT Balaji and Zee5.
The story of 'Bicchoo Ka Khel' is set in Varanasi, the city of salvation and liberation. The main character of the story is Akhil Srivastava (Divyenndu) and starts with a college function, in which Anil Chaubey (Satyajit Sharma), a well-known lawyer of the city, has arrived as the chief guest. Akhil shoots Anil Choubey to death in a crowded gathering and then goes to the police station and surrenders. Here, Akhil tells his whole story in front of police officer Nikunj Tiwari (Syed Zeeshan Quadri). Akhil also falls in love with Anil Choubey's daughter Rashmi Choubey (Anshul Chauhan). Writer Akhil and his father Babu (Mukul Chaddha) work in a sweet shop, which is owned by Anil Choubey's elder brother Mukesh Choubey (Rajesh Sharma). Babu has an illicit affair with Mukesh's wife Pratima Chaubey (Trishna Mukherjee). One night Babu gets caught in the charge of killing Munna Singh (Gautam Babbar). After some events, he is killed in jail. Akhil goes out to avenge the murder of his father Babu and in this sequence, many new conspiracies are revealed with some shocking revelations. How does Akhil save himself from the charge of killing Anil Choubey? How will he reach Babu's real killer? That's the crux of the story.
The story and screenplay are penned by Ghalib Asad Bhopali and Gibran Noorani. A lot is going on in this series, and at its core, it's a triple murder mystery. The story doesn't offer anything exciting, however, initially, I thought it will be good and something "hatke" from all the last ALT Balaji projects, as it shows that this show pays homage to the musicians of the 70s and the 80s Indian Film's timeless music, and the show doesn't waste your time to dive into the murder mystery zone, and hence 1-2 episodes are still captivating. From the next episodes, the screenplay surely becomes very fast-paced and it's good to be fast so that the audience wouldn't feel bored, but here it flies away so fast that it doesn't impact you and one point will when you'll find it hard to get what's happening because the twists and turns are there, but are very childish and nonsensical.
There are lots of loopholes, for instance, why Mukesh, owner of the sweet shop didn't kill Saroj, the maid, on the spot when she saw him sneaking out of Munna's room. And in another scene, how Akhil was so sure that Rajveer would shoot him in the arm and not in the head. Like these holes, there are plenty of twists that don't even make sense and had been delivered just for the sake of it. It seems like the writers have first written all the twists and turns and then they developed a story around it. It gets worse by the end.
The image of Munna Tripathi of 'Mirzapur' is still visible in the whole of 'Bicchoo Ka Khel', just the feeling of rowdiness is gone Otherwise, a lot is the same. But he is in good form and always entertaining just like Anshul Chauhan who plays Rashmi Choubey is also outstanding. Sayed Zeeshan Quadri is quite good as the investigating officer Nikunj Tiwari. Prashansa Sharma as Poonam Tiwari is total rubbish and unneeded character and has been used just to add glamour and adult content in the drama, and other actors have also done a fine job. Kshitij Roy's dialogues are sharp and spicy which suit the characters and the tone of the drama but the abundance of abuse seems odd and very forced.
The cinematography by Sunil Pillai is very average, and the music which pays homage to the 70s and 80s music is good but doesn't always fit with the scenes, emotional scenes with loud music is a mess. Production Design by Anindita Chaturvedi is good.
Bicchoo Ka Khel, yet again like ALT Balaji's last project, falls flat to create any impact on the audience, it starts with a good flow but further with forced twists and turns and unnecessary profanity, and loud and overused and dominating background music will make you feel irritated after some time. Well, if you're a fan of Divyenndu and how he with such ease uses cuss words, then this is your show, if not then stay away.
Rating:- 1.5/5
