Dickinson Season 2 Review : Supremely Funny and Entertaining and Better than season one.

Dickinson is an American comedy series created by Alena Smith. It stars Hailee Steinfeld, Toby Huss, Adrian Blake Enscoe, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Finn Jones, Pico Alexander, Will Pullen, and Jane Krakowski in main roles. The second season has 10 episodes and was premiered on 8th January 2021 on Apple TV+.

The story is set in the 1860s and is about an American poet Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) who likes to stay alone in her rooms and write poems. From season 1 we have the idea of who she's, a weird, eccentric, quirky, and heterodox young woman craving for knowledge and experience which her father Edward Dickinson (Toby Huss) declines every time for her. She loves her best friend who is now her sister in law Sue (Ella Hunt) and she wants Emily to succeed in her life by putting out those amazing poems in front of the world and that's where enters a newspaper editor Samuel Bowles (Finn Jones) who helps her achieve what she deserves. Her one poem gets published in his newspaper but suddenly everything changes as Emily is now experiencing writer's block and she blames Sue for this.

Created by Alena Smith, Dickinson 2 is not only about Emily. Other plots are running in parallel, the most interesting is Emily's sister Lavinia (Anna Baryshnikov) who is in a relationship with a businessman Henry Shipley (Pico Alexander). But she's is not sure of him. Henry wants his wife to be simple, traditional but Lavinia is wild, horny, and carefree and she's obsessed with his ex Lola and her spider dance, and whenever Lola's name comes up, there is music and you'll laugh hard on these scenes.

Emily's brother Austin Dickinson (Adrian Blake Enscoe) also gets sufficient space this time. He thinks of himself as a failure as after getting everything ready-made from his father, he didn't do anything great in his life. His expense and the roof over his head, all is there because of his father. His anxiety and desperation are very well shown. His wanting to have a child causes a gap between him and Sue. Whereas the elders, Edward and Emily Norcross (Jane Krakowski) are also facing issues, in one scene Edward fell in a hole and he screams "Helloooo I'm Edward, and I'm in a hole" is damn funny and later his wife jumps in too.

Emily Dickinson is also facing a dilemma whether she wants fame and recognition or not. Staying a nobody poet would be great...a person named Nobody keeps appearing warning her not to publish the poems. Her relationship with Sue is still messy and it screws up even more when Samuel the editor comes into Emily's life. Dickinson is a period sitcom but its unusual touch of music and songs and out of the box ideas behind the character makes it a super cool and modern show. It's enjoyable and funky and wild and vibrant and that's what you will love about this show.

Hailee Steinfeld is spectacular as Emily Dickinson. She brings a refreshing touch and vulnerability to her character and makes it instantly likable. Toby Huss and Jane Krakowski are outstanding as Emily's parents. Their issues where they are not able to spend some intimate moments with each other brings solid laughs. Anna Baryshnikov as Lavinia and Pico Alexander as Ship are entertaining. Adrian Blake Enscoe as Austin shines throughout and you'll feel for him. Ella Hunt as Sue is beautiful and is fine and Finn Jones as Samuel also impresses.

The cinematography by Tim Orr is stunning. The music by Drum & Lace and Ian Hultquist is groovy especially the intro sequence of few seconds is mind-blowing. The costume designer Jennifer Moeller has done a great job overall recreating the period attire. Allison Ford's art direction is also top-notch and the editing is also perfect.

So Dickinson Season 2 is fun, wild, period yet modern, and highly entertaining. Despite the black people's motive in this show is impactless even after throwing lines like "we may be anonymous today, tomorrow we will not be invisible" and later bursting into group dance and that too so amazing, this new season is way better than season 1. This time the focus is on others also, fleshing out Emily's brother and sister's feelings and emotions, showing Emily muddling between fame and being a nobody, season 2 is high on feelings and depths. If you have not seen it, stream it, you'll find yourself laughing hard and feeling for that characters simultaneously and that's what you'll love about this show. It's a perfect sitcom that is supremely funny and highly entertaining.

Rating:- 4/5
