Alone is an American Zombie Horror film directed by Johnny Martin and written by Matt Naylor. It was released on 16th October 2020. It stars Tyler Posey, Summer Spiro, and Donald Sutherland in the lead roles.
The story follows Aidan (Tyler Posey) who lives alone in his apartment. When he wakes up in the morning one day, he hears noises and screaming of people outside his apartment and on the road. People are becoming violent and attacking each other, in the most gruesome way. Now there's no way for him to get out of his apartment. After some days, he runs out of food and nearly 42 days have passed since the starting of the zombie apocalypse. Now he tries to commit suicide but suddenly he sees another person, Eva (Summer Spiro), who is living in the apartment of the other building just opposite the one of Aidan. He sees hope and starts communicating with her. So will they survive this apocalypse? What happens next? The movie has all the answers.
Alone is the remake of the Korean Zombie Horror Film #Alive. That movie is something you've never seen before, it's captivating from the start. But here, Alone's screenplay by Matt Naylor is simply awful. None of the characters are believable. The scenes are poorly written and have many loopholes. The thrill factor is totally zero. Horror is not there at all. Sometimes I got confused about what this movie is trying to be, is it horror, or thriller, or a romantic drama. There's this one scene, in which Aidan and Eva are communicating with the walkie talkie, and talking about what, girlfriends and boyfriends and to be in a relationship. Come on!! You have to get out of there anyhow and you're all talking about GF and BF, giggling and laughing, NONSENSE! Writer Matt Naylor throws anything at you, despite considering the fact that the scenes are relevant to the film or not.
Tyler Posey as Aidan is unconvincing. You'll not feel attached to him in any way. He's in this movie just because the makers have given him many scenes to show his bare body. Totally unnecessary scenes. Summer Spiro is good as Eva, her face is ten times more expressive than Tyler's. She got very limited scenes but has done well. Donald Sutherland is another irritating character.
The cinematography, editing, are below average. The production design and art direction are horrible. The corridors are like so clean, feels like it must have been moped five minutes ago. Come on! It should've been full of blood and guts. People are killing each other, how it's possible to be so clean. Also, there are not many zombies, and here zombie speaks. They mutter Kill Me, Save Me, which shows that they are not totally dead. But it doesn't add anything to the film, so what's the use? The makeup of zombies is also very dull, not scary at all.
The director Johnny Martin seems very confused here. He doesn't know what he wants to show from this movie. Everything is below average, from acting, the story to other technical aspects. The ending is also not impressive. There are other better versions out there, the French movie "The Night Eats The world" and the Korean movie "#ALIVE".
