Operation Christmas Drop is an American Christmas romantic comedy film directed by Martin Wood. It stars Kat Graham and Alexander Ludwig in the lead roles and this film was released on 5th November 2020 on Netflix.
Erica (Kat Graham) works for congresswoman Bradford (Virginia Madsen) as an assistant, and she's given a task to go to the US Air Force Base in Guam, where they been doing "Operation Christmas Drop", with the expenses of the government and she has to make a report of it, stating whether the base should be closed or remain open. She lands there and met Andrew (Alexander Ludwig) on a beach, and he shows her the USAF Base, the island, and try to convince her not to close the base. That base has a yearly tradition of transporting goods by aircraft to remote places and needy people for Christmas. Andrew tells Erica that it's all done by the donations, and not by the money of the taxpayers. Erica starts to get close to the place, the people, and Andrew.
Gregg Rossen and Brian Sawyer have written the story and screenplay which is based on the real-life US Air Force Operation Christmas Drop Humanitarian Misson. The script is full of sweet moments, principally, the chemistry between the two leads is the only good thing in this film. It wastes no time, to bring them together on a single frame, and whenever they are on the screen, their magic works. Their relationship buildup is also done in a very subtle manner, and it's not easy to see them as solo, you'll crave when will they be together. The film other than that offers almost nothing, there are many actors but just got sidelined by these two amazing leads. The last 10 minutes is good, where you'll get to see the Operation Christmas Drop and it's quite good and uplifting.
Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn from Vikings) as Andrew is superb, and it's good to see him doing these light-hearted roles. Kat Graham is just perfect for this role, and Alexander and Kat's electrifying chemistry is a treat to see. Others are also good, but not got much screentime though. The cinematography by Michael C. Blundell is good and has captured the beauty of the island quite gorgeously. The ariel shots are also amazing, the production design, and the music, all are of a high standard.
Operation Christmas Drop by Martin Wood is a time pass Christmas movie, which you can watch with your friends and family, and has sweet and amazing chemistry between the two leads, and a quite warming and touching ending. I'm going with two and a half stars for this film, which has been made with a good heart but doesn't have anything extra to offer other than the sweet moments between the main characters, and an effective Christmas Drop scene at the end.
