Pati Patni Aur Panga - Review : A cold appproch towards a story which could have been Extraordinary!

Pati Patni Aur Panga - Review

Pati Patni Aur Panga is an Indian Hindi Comedy Drama Web Series directed by Abir Sengupta. It stars Adah Sharma, Naveen Kasturia, Alka Amin, Susheel Parashar, Hiten Tejwani, and Gurpreet Saini in the main roles. It has a total of 6 episodes and was released on 11th December 2020 on MX Player.

Romanchak Arora (Naveen Kasturia), works as a broker for providing places and rooms in rent, is in search of a suitable girl. He belongs to a conservative family and his mother Renu Arora (Alka Amin) always taunts him saying not to spend much time with boys, rather he should marry a girl. Romanchak's life remains empty and monotonous until Shivani (Adah Sharma) comes into his life, in search of a place to stay as she is new in the town. He falls in love with her, love at first sight happens.

But sadly, Shivani is not getting any place to live as the owners are not willing and agreeing to give a room to an unmarried and single woman as she will bring boys and she'll party, that's why she is rejected and eventually, with the idea of Romanchak's friend Jeetu (Gurpreet Saini), he offers her his vacant room in his house which she accepts until she gets any other place to stay. Renu is very glad to see her son finally spending time with a girl. They soon get married but Shivani has a dark past and when Romanchak gets to know about that, he makes up his mind to divorce her.

Abir Sengupta is also the writer of this series. He deserves praise for coming up with such interesting premises, just like Indoo Ki Jawani, his film venture, but ultimately he sabotages everything. He tries to come up with an idea, with the main character Shivani, to showcases the emotions and all the struggles she goes through after having a sex change operation. With LGBTQ movies that are full of hard-hitting homophobic sequences, here Abir Sengupta tries to deliver his message in following a light-hearted way.

The show starts good but with the next and next episodes, it just gets worse and ridiculously bad. From the marriage to the courtroom drama, nothing is powerful to give you the impact that it should have. Everything so easily gets adjusted into the places, Romanchak gets married to Shivani and in no time they are divorcing each other. Everything here is short term and is volatile.

Renu Arora is shown very open-minded who talks and discuss unabashedly and boldly about her son's love life, but she can't accept someone who has got her sex changed. Even the courtroom drama is bland and ineffective, and the clashes between the Judge Mishra (Vijay Kashyap) and Shivani and Tiwari (Hiten Tejwani) just comes out to be lame and kind of immaturish. Without considering the delicacy and empathy and feelings of genders and even of the story, it has been put forward to you in a plate with highlighting relevant and important issues prevailing in the society but with no understanding, no feelings, no kindliness, and with zero warmth.

Adah Sharma has got the chance to explore and unravel herself as someone the audience has never seen. This could have been the turning point of her career, but neither her performance nor her shabby and defective character makes any hit. She's weak. Naveen Kasturia was good at least and Alka Amin as his mother was a delight. Gurpreet Saini, the helpmate of Romanchak has also lent good support and brings comic relief often.

There's nothing to about the cinematography. The music is at least good and Dil ne dil ki sudhli hai comes as a breeze to soothe you. The editing was crisp and the production design by Sandeep Bhamkar is ordinary.

Pati Patni Aur Panga fails to deliver what is intended. Abir Sengupta surely comes up with "out of the box" concepts but he has to understand, that he also has to handle it giving them "out of the box" treatment. Presenting it coldly and impassively is just ruining his terrific concepts. It could have been an extraordinary show and a landmark project for him and Adah and Naveen if the emotional and sensitive issue would have been coped with utmost honesty and subtlety.
