I Care A Lot - Review : Rosamund Pike is Electrifying in this Deliciously Entertaining Film.

I Care A Lot is an American comedy-drama film directed by J Blakeson. It stars Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Chris Messina, and Dianne Wiest and was released on 19th February 2021 on Netflix.

Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike), a con woman, with the woman she loves Fran (Eiza González) runs a business where she meets other elder women and men introducing herself as their legal guardian and places them in a living facility, cutting them off from their family members and then she sells their home and their property and belongings for her own profit. Dr. Karen Amos (Alicia Witt) informs her about a wealthy old woman Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest) who has no family and seeing this old woman as her golden goose, Marla falsely testifies in the court that Jennifer is suffering from illness and arthritis and is unable to takee care of herself and Jennifer is moved from her own house to a facility where she is not allowed to go out. Whereas Marla and Fran start to sell all of her assets and discover a key that leads her to diamonds worth millions and they get to learn that there is no insurance or record for that diamonds. They keep that diamonds. But there is the Russian Mafia and their boss is Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage) who is trying his best to free Jennifer from that facility and to retrieve those diamonds.

J Blakeson has written the story which is undeniably entertaining and appealing and has a novelty in it. Here Marla is a clever, smart, and brave woman who knows clearly what she is doing. She's sassy and only wants to be rich at any cost. So 'I Care A Lot' is a perfect paradoxical title as she doesn't care, from what we have seen, she neither contacts any of her clients nor she's concerned about from they're suffering or going through in the facility.

The film is deliciously entertaining and keeps you intrigued from start to end, but Rosamund Pike's Marla is the only character dominant here, her dynamics with her girlfriend Fran is left untouched, though we see a couple of intimate scenes. Jennifer's life, little we see about her too. We don't even know about Marla too. The direction is slick and the length is almost 2 hours but is crisp seeing how the film keeps you engaged but some loose ends are unclear, related to characters, and the climax was childish and I was definitely not expecting such a convenient ending.

Rosamund Pike shines throughout. She has that charm and attraction to keep you engrossed even her character might feel unrealistic at some level. Peter Dinklage is a treat to watch, and Dianne Wiest who we love seeing playing lovely and innocent every time, here her expressions are killing when she sees Marla with cunningness all over her face. She nailed it, small performance, but good. Eiza González as Fran, Chris Messina as Dean Ericson, and Alicia Witt as Dr. Karen Amos have lent good support.

The cinematography by Doug Emmett is perfect seeing the tone of the film. It's slickly shot and everything has been captured effortlessly. The production design by Michael Grasley is absolutely stunning. The offices and everything look beautiful and spot on. The music by Marc Canham doesn't create any impact but is okay. The editing by Mark Eckersley is perfect.

I Care A Lot by J Blakeson is a refreshing take on a con woman story. Despite the characters appear far from real and underdeveloped but the screenplay is so fast-paced it won't give you a minute to think about its drawbacks. Still, Rosamund Pike's electrifying performance will make fall in love with her again after Gone Girl and as a whole, it will keep you intrigued and is thoroughly enjoyable and deliciously entertaining.
