Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is an American comedy film directed by Jason Woliner, and is the sequel to the 2006 film, Borat. The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, and Maria Bakalova in the lead roles. This film was released on 23rd October 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.
From the 2006 film, Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen), by releasing his documentary, he has brought shame to his homeland Kazakhstan and he's given another mission to go to U.S & A, to deliver a gift, a monkey, to McDonald Trump's best friend, vice president Michael Pence. But reaching there, Borat sees that in the box where he has kept the monkey, his daughter, Tutar (Maria Bakalova) comes out of it, and has eaten the monkey. Now Borat comes up with a new plan to give away his daughter to the vice president of U.S.&A as a gift from his homeland.
Sacha Baron Cohen along with Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, and Nina Pedrad has written the story. The screenplay has been written by 7 writers including Sacha Baron Cohen. If you have loved 2006, Borat, only then watch this. This has a kind of humor, which is so uncomfortable to watch, yet so much fun. But unlike its first part, it's not only crazy but has an emotional angle too. Baron chained his daughter Tutar back in Kazakhstan, and in America, both are shocked to see that women are driving cars, working as a journalist, which Tutar has never dreamt of, living like animals back in her homeland, now wants freedom, and that's where it wins extra points more than the first part. Here so many writers together have written a wonderful script, that has layers of feelings and an epic level of madness.
Whenever any scene cuts to another, you will get excited about what Borat is gonna do here, or what mess he's gonna create now. Borat 2 feels like watching a compilation of comic scenes, that never fails to bring laughs. Like the scene where, he learns to use Google, and sending messages through a fax machine, and when Tutar swallows the baby (a kind of toy) that was on the top of the cake, and they went to a doctor where Tutar say "I want the baby to be removed from my stomach" is hilarious and Borat says " I put the baby in her stomach" and that doctors reaction is so amazing, you'll be rolling out. Another scene is the ball, where father-daughter had to dance together, that is epic and is strangely funny but yet many might get uncomfortable.
Sacha Baron Cohen is in a terrific form as Borat. The craziness and humor are still intact as it was 14 years ago, he nailed Borat, and it was quite a surprise to see someone who can overshadow (a bit) Borat, and that was another epic character Tutar played by Maria Bakalova. She's very talented, and has a strong presence, and is the soul of the film.
The cinematography is by Luke Giessbuhler, and is the same kind as it was in the first part, a mockumentary type, but smoothly blended with some real footages. Erran Baron Cohen, the brother of Sacha, has given the music, and it goes very well with the mood of the film.
The film also shows a short period of our lockdown, and how Borat played an important part in spreading this virus is shown at the climax that makes quite interesting and solid base for it's third part. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm by debutant Jason Woliner is even better than its predecessor, offers more fun and madness, there are two stars in this film, Sacha and Maria, and hence it's double the craziness.
